Yarnup Project Director – Melanie HoganAs the Yarnup Project Director I am responsible for overseeing the creation and execution of the Yarnup program. That means I hope to create a project that will:
- Support my Indigenous brothers and sisters in sharing their amazing culture with non- Indigenous Australians
- Inspire Australian students to listen and learn from their Indigenous brothers and sisters.
A bit about me...I am 30 years old and live in Sydney. Life definitely became much richer for me when I started to form friendships with Indigenous Australians. I feel blessed to have made a film with Uncle Bob Randall from Uluru called 'Kanyini'. I feel even more blessed to have an opportunity to see Kanyini go into more Australian schools through the Yarnup program. I look forward to working on Yarnup with you all throughout 2008.
Yarnup Indigenous Liaison Officer – Wadi WiriyanjaraAs the Yarnup Indigenous Liaison Officer I am responsible for supporting the Aboriginal custodians involved in the Yarnup program. That means I wish to support you to ensure :
- You feel respected culturally at all times.
- You feel confident visiting the local school.
- You feel emotionally comfortable when watching the film screening of Kanyini (for our people, it is a very sad yet inspiring film).
- You feel you always have someone you can call if you have any problems.
I am also here to help you to create a 'cultural experience' for the students that is mutually beneficial.
A bit about me...I am 35 years old and now live in Sydney. I am originally from the Anangu-Pitjantjatjara-Yankunytjatjara
lands of Central Australia. I grew up there with my father, who is a traditional Anangu man. My first language is Pitjantjatjara. I still live with the belief system of our Tjukurrpa, our lore. I feel there is a need for all Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to understand the importance of the land. I look forward to yarning with you soon.
Palya,
Wadi
