Yarnup
Talk the Story, Walk the Story
Yarnup is an Education and Outreach Program which takes the award winning Australian documentary film 'Kanyini' into Australian Schools that one step further. The overall aim of the program is to connect Australian students with their local Indigenous community through friendship.
The Yarnup program sees student leaders and their support teacher receiving a package which guides them through the following steps:
Step One: Co-ordinate a film screening of "Kanyini" at the school and invite the local Indigenous community to the screening. (Talk the Story)
Step Two: Co-ordinate an excursion with the local Aboriginal people to learn more about the local area and culture. (Walk the Story)
The students then submit a visual document (artwork, photographs, short film, music) which shows the growing friendship between the community and the school. The most heartfelt expression wins a prize: Bob Randall, the star of the film, visits the school.

The Team at Yarnup believe the program has the potential to:*Empower Indigenous communities and Indigenous students through a program which supports the culture and values of Indigenous Australians.
*Present a pioneering program which enables Australian students to engage with Indigenous Australians from their local community face to face.
*Restore national integrity by taking the lead in recognising the importance of healing and listening to Indigenous Australians as a tangible step to a united, sustainable Australia.
